THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP TIPS & TRICKS

BOOK TEE TIMES IN ADVANCE

Interested in playing a round of golf while you are visiting Florida’s First Coast? With so many golf fans in town for the tournament, many of the top courses will fill up quickly that week. To secure your spot on one of our region’s signature courses, be sure to book tee times as soon as you confirm your vacation schedule

ARRIVE EARLY & PURCHASE PARKING PASSES IN ADVANCE

Make plans to get to the course early! A1A is the main route to the tournament with traffic backing up during peak times of the tournament. The earlier you arrive, the better as traffic is at its peak between noon and 2 p.m. daily.

If you are staying inland, take advantage of the CR-210/Nocatee Parkway route rather than A1A. You’ll avoid delays and have a scenic view too.

If you’re driving to the Championship, it’s important to note that parking passes are not included in any ticket purchases, and a separate pass is required for each day of the tournament. These digital parking passes must be purchased in advance online and are $15 (plus taxes and fees) per day for Tuesday and Wednesday, $40 (plus taxes and fees) per day for Thursday through Sunday.

TIP: Consider utilizing rideshare to avoid the hassle of driving and parking altogether! Uber, Lyft and other rideshare services are available throughout the region, with pickup and drop off available nearby the 15th hole at the Couples entry off of ATP Boulevard.

STAY HYDRATED, EAT WELL & AVOID SUNBURNS

With temperatures in the 80s during the day, the two most important things to keep in mind — stay hydrated and apply sunscreen. Often. Take advantage of shaded areas and hydrate throughout the day — on water, not just alcohol.

You’ll have no shortage of dining and drink options at the tournament. For great eats, check out Trucks on 10, featuring a taste of Northeast Florida’s local food truck scene. And don’t miss the popular Tacos on 12 with great tacos and drinks from Jacksonville Beach’s own TacoLu.

WHAT TO WEAR

Taking high temperatures into account, preppy and comfortable are the norm for Northeast Florida’s premier golf tournament. Ladies, don your favorite sundress, but leave the heels at home (you’ll be walking in grass all day!) and men, avoid flip flops. Go for comfort and you’ll fit right in with the crowd. If you packed poorly or just want to wear the latest golf styles while at the Championship, take a trip to the PGA TOUR Superstore in nearby Jacksonville, where you can stock up on comfortable golf attire (and get in a few practice putts while you’re there!).

TAKE TIME TO EXPLORE NORTHEAST FLORIDA

Although your main reason for the trip is to see the world’s best golfers on the course at THE PLAYERS Championship, don’t forget to schedule a few days before and after the tournament to explore Florida’s First Coast. Soak up some sun and history in St. Augustine, relax on the beaches in Amelia Island or Palm Coast and don’t miss exploring the great breweries and neighborhoods in Jacksonville. Or, explore Clay County’s abundant outdoor adventures. After the tournament has ended for the day, refuel, unwind, and connect with fellow golf enthusiasts at one of the region’s top restaurants or sports bars. In St. Augustine, visit Caddyshack at World Golf Village to “Eat, Drink and Be Murray” at the golf-themed restaurant and bar. In Jacksonville, sample locally distilled spirits and creative cocktails at Manifest Distilling, the city’s only full-scale distillery, which is located in the heart of their sports district. Imbibers interested in learning more about the distilling process can book a tour of the facility, with private, guided tasting tours available for groups of 10 or more.
